FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

We have an Enterprise development and maintenance environment, using OS/390 repectively z/OS (MVS) and various Client Server platforms, can we manage all of our software objects centrally?

SET-LIBER can be installed as an Internet or Intranet application on any platform which supports a Web Browser. With SET-LIBER you can manage all of your software objects, Enterprise-wide, with absolute security. You can also reconstruct any software object, this will satisfy your audit requirements.

Will we need any additional system components to enable us to manage all of our software objects, Enterprise-wide?

SET-LIBER, together with the web server of the S/390 repectively the zSeries, can be used on any other platform on your network supported by your Web Browser. No extensions to your hardware or to your operating system are required, this means no additional costs to you.

Will we have to install any software on our Client Server platforms to enable us to use SET-LIBER?

No! Client side you must have access to a web browser, all the required Client Server SET-LIBER software is installed in the Web Server.

What type of object or document, and which format can SET-LIBER manage centrally?

SET-LIBER will manage any type or format of object, for example, load modules, Word documents, html files, etc. SET-LIBER will provide the secure rebuild capability of any and all objects, regardless of the origin of the data.

How will SET-LIBER deal with our particular working environments with their different requirements?

SET-LIBER allows you to define any process, with these different processes you can manage the various development and testing environments, right up to them being put into production. A SET-LIBER process can be defined for any combination or group of objects or even for an individual object, any exceptions are automatically detected and dealt with. SET-LIBER provides exits in all of its functions, to allow for system and individual company requirements, for example, naming conventions, etc. These exits can be used to deal with installation or individual specific requirements of any kind. All relevant information within SET-LIBER is made available to the exits at execution time.

Can SET-LIBER deal with a software object, in a production environment, that needs to be modified in some way, even though it is being worked on by a developer?

SET-LIBER will manage the parallel modification of software objects, which can occur during middle to long term project development, by implementing the rules laid down as installation standards. The details of which objects and which projects, and the relevant priorities and authorisations, can be made available by SET-LIBER as and when required.

Does SET-LIBER manage the integrity of 3rd party software objects?

SET-LIBER will take note of any company specific requirements when the 3rd party product(s) are first installed and used, any changes are remembered by SET-LIBER. When any new releases are delivered those modifications are automatically detected, as appropriate. In this way it is immediately clear which objects, compared to the last release, are unchanged.

Does SET-LIBER support Release management?

SET-LIBER allows for the construction and administration of Configurations, for example, packages, complete applications, etc. , these are user defined groups of objects. These Configurations, for example, complete projects, new software releases, etc., can be managed through the development stages right into production.

In this way, a Configuration can be defined as an application, in production, which can be 'frozen', using special functions. Thus, the details of which version of the software should be in production become absolutely clear.

SET-LIBER can reconstruct any single objects or complete Configurations, at any point in time, at the touch of a button.
